2nd finish

Today I completed my second of six committed PhDs. It is good to have another done, though I did hope to be further along.

This is the Schnibble Roundabout made with Hello Betty layer cakes. It was quilted by Jan Barnett in Wyoming. My middle daughter really wanted the quilt so I gave it to her. It made her day!

First PhD done!

I finished the binding on the first of my PhDs listed. It is the Hazel's Diary quilt along. I really LOVE how this one turned out.

I have a second on my list ready to go, just need to bind it. Whoo hoo!!!

Another top done

I now have my third top done (out of 5). This quilt has been a PhD for over 11 years. It will head off to my LAQ this week.

I have two quilts being quilted now and hope to have them this week. If so, I can add the binding and have two finished PhDs to tally on my list.

I dug out the Fish quilt today and will start on it tomorrow. My daughter reminded me today that she has been waiting years for that quilt.

Second top

Once again, I have a finished top. Not quilted yet, but ready to head off to my LAQ. I thought I would never get done with this one....and I only started it last year. I have pulled out my next PhD which is eleven years in the making!

This is a Schnibbles pattern, Roundabout done in Hello Betty fabrics. I used layer cakes instead of charm squares so I would have a bigger quilt.

First top done

I know I am committed to finishing the entire quilt and cannot count a finished PhD until the binding is done, but I had to share. I love how it turned out.

This was a quilt along that went through the year last year. We did one little piece per day as we read excerpts from a 15 year old's diary. It was a lot of fun. It was the Hazel's Diary Quilt Along. All the fabrics came from my stash...BONUS!

It will be off to my LAQ this weekend.

I have committed to finishing five PhDs by the end of June 2011. I want to have all the quilts pieced, quilted and bound before the end of the challenge.

My list is:

1. My Embroidered Snowmen Quilt. I have been working in this quilt for almost five years now and it just needs to get done!! It is the first one I will work on. I have misplaced the embroidery designs a number of times now and need to get the blocks done before I lose them again. I added one to the set by taking a snowman facing right and flipping him. This gives me 15 snowman blocks to work with.


2. Hello Betty Roundabout Quilt. This is just a fun quilt that I started many months ago. It goes pretty fast once I get going on it. I bought these fabrics last summer on a trip to Lancaster, PA and started the quilt as soon as I could. I just got too caught up in the holiday quilt making frenzy to finish it. I have to say that it is not my favorite as the blocks do not always line up, no matter how careful I am. I am making half square triangles from the corner scraps for another small quilt. This one is on my design wall already so I plan to finish it this month. If all goes well, I will have the snowmen and this quilt off to Jan for quilting by Valentine's Day. That gives me a generous six weeks.



3. Hazel's Diary Quilt Along. This is a wonderful quilt that should have been done at the end of 2010. I fell far behind and just need to git er done. I love the pattern and the fabrics and can't wait to see it finished. The final quilt really is stunning and I can't wait to see it all together. I plan to throw it in a tea bath after it is done. The background sticks out too much for me.



4. Hoffman Block Swap. About 10 years ago we did a block swap with my quilt group in Dover, DE. We chose the Hoffman fabric (in the center of the block) as the background and all made 12 of our blocks to swap. I made a few more since I wanted a bigger quilt. To be honest, it has been so long that I cannot remember if I made three or four extras, LOL. I don't even know where all the pieces are at, but will find them before I get to this quilt. This is why I have it listed fourth :).


5. Black Fish Quilt. This is a Southwinds Pattern and the fish will have curved gills. My middle daughter has been waiting for me to finish it for way tooooo long. All the fabrics (except the black) are hand dyed from my first attempt. I have about half the blocks done, and just need to get cracking on the rest. This is one quilt that I have to really use my design wall for since it is easy to stitch the pieces incorrectly.
