PhD Number 4 is finished.....I'm done!

PhD Number 4 is done and I love it. I cant work out why I didn't finish it before this!

I started this one a year ago in May 2010.

Miss P decided to put her dibs in for this in March when she saw all the quilt bits hidden in a cupboard. It gave me a reason to finish it. It's going to a good home.

I had a few anxious moments when I realised I was 10 inches short on the backing . Thank Goodness for stash!

And that means I'm officially finished.All My PhD's are done. Time to create some more.

Shay's Third Finish

I’m on the home stretch. This is PhD Number 3 done. One more to go. Oh what a feeling!  I’m hoping that one will be finished in a few weeks.  

I started this Christmas Quilt in August 2010 and it sat idle after I decided I didn’t really love it about 10 minutes after I put the top together.  On reflection the sashing fabric is too dotty for the Christmas prints but I was too lazy to unpick it and sash it with something more suitable. Sometimes it's enough to get the monkey off your back .

And as if this quilt knew I didn’t love it to bits it decided to give me no end of trouble with quilting it. But it’s done!  Since there isn’t a lot of call for Christmas quilts in Australia at Christmas because it’s our summer this is going to be a dog blanket for Indy and Lola’s bed in December.

Roll on PhD  finish Number 4!  The end  is in sight! Then I can start a load of new projects with impunity!

Shay's Second PhD-Finish

It’s done. My second PhD finish . And boy am I happy this monkey is off my back. This little beauty and I never saw eye to eye from day 1 . Lesson learned - Pastels and I are not friends.

This  was my oldest PhD –and I had visions of my great grandchildren sorting through piles of my sewing stuff  in 40 years asking "I wonder why Bella never finished this quilt? "

Named by Becky, sewn , quilted and bound by moi,  I present to you  "When Pastels Turn Sad".  

Now onto the next one! (This finish feels sooooooooo good )

PhD-Finish

Here’s my first finish for the PHD challenge, although I feel like I cheated  since I got my backside into gear and actually finished it after I included it in my PHD tally but  BEFORE the New Year . In my mind it still counts as a finish since it was lurking around waiting to be made into a quilt top and it was this challenge that spurred me into action.

Rarely does anything I make go according to my original vision and this was no different . Mr. P bought me this quilt top online as a finished vintage top because I liked the colours but when it arrived it had all sorts of issues not the least of which was that it combined cottons (the blocks ) and poly/cottons (the sashing ) and the fact it was a little stretched in one corner. This presented some issues in the quilting process .  Faster than you can say Dog Blanket it was done.  My pooches now have bragging rights to the  classiest dog  blanket in town.

One down . Three to go! I hope everyone else is making fabulous progress wrangling their PhD's.

I have the attention span of a goldfish

After hearing about this fantastic challenge over at Sarcastic Quilter , I just knew I had to join up.

You can see my long winded post about my PhD’s here ...but if you want to spare yourself the waffle just read this re-cap. I’m aiming to finish 4 PHD’s before June. How much fun will it be doing it with other people that are working towards a PHD free sewing space? This is just the kick in the pants I need. Thanks for hosting and coordinating Myra.

The Snowball quilt –The Good

I love this fabric range and I think I’m going to love this snowball quilt if it ever gets finished. I started this one in May 2010 and stalled somewhere around July. This is my most unfinished project and the one I think I’m really hopefully truly going to fall in love with as I’m finishing it up.

The Christmas quilt –The Bad

This Christmas quilt was supposed to be finished for this Christmas. Started in August 2010 and banged together very quickly ,( I love how fast coin quilts come together ) it has now been languishing in my cupboard for about 4 months. Christmas in Australia is usually hot so this quilt is being made more for aesthetics than warmth. That meant I didn’t have to push myself to finish it so I started working on several other somethings...

The Windmill Quilt –The Ugly

This poor quilt has been a PITA since day 1 (which occurred sometime in January 2010). Nothing has gone right and when that happens I banish quilts to boxes and pretend they don’t exist. This has also been used as a floor rug in my sewing room lately in addition to a cat blanket. I’ve got popping seams, a hatred of the pastels with the white and I contemplated turning it into a table cloth but it doesn’t go with my French provincial dining room. Sigh..I guess that means I'm going to have to finish it and gift it to someone who’ll love it far more than I do...

The Shoo Fly Quilt –An extra

This was bought for me as a completed vintage top last year by my husband who thought I may enjoy just the thrill of making it into an actual finished quilt. I love the top but have been ignoring it now for a year. Time to finish this one up since it really isn’t going to require stacks of effort! I have to say I love the colours. I’m into bright and bold. This is going to be the first one I tackle.

So there's my list and  this post was still a waffle. I’m kinda like that...
