Woo Hoo - Janette,s first completion

My first PhD completed. Hand quilted and bound. It has been shipped off to my mother who staked her claim to it last time she visited.

My first commitment is to quilt and bind the medalion quilt that I started earlier this year following Bloomin' Workshop's Medallion quilt along. I started a year late after everybody else had finished but loved the challenge and showed myself that I am actually capable of something a bit more complicated. I stopped at 11 rounds, having swapped a few later ones from the pattern, as I wanted a standard 6ft bed topper size. Unfortunately, every time I tried to take a picture Angel decided to dive from a great height and get into the picture but I will try not to sew her into the design. I started hand quilting on Boxing day with free-hand trefoils and am about 2/3rd of the way so hope to be in a position to bind in another week.


Number 2 is a bit more challenging as there are blocks to finish before joining quilting and binding. I started these at the beginning of the summer and haven't got any further than cutting the remaining blocks. 10 down 5 to go. Unfortunately I only had a small amount of the yellow print and couldn't get any more so some have green. I am not sure on the layout but the theory is that the yellow will be nearer the middle and green to the outside.



Finally, I had a pack of charm squares in blue and white and as I was just learning to make pinwheels got some practice. I think 'bordered' them with lightweight denim but found that I was one short so a bit of aplique needed before I quilt and bind. The size is a bit odd so I might find some more blue and white to add a couple of borders first. As the picture was taken in June, it has been far too long in the pending pile.



I am shocked at how many PhD's I actually have as I have only been quilting sincce October 2009 when I needed some therapy after a long illness. I also took part in two quilt-alongs but the blocks are still in a pile so my commitment may increase depending on how I get on with these three.
