Dear folks, due to an illness that is brand new to me. I must withdraw my name from this challenge.
I do not feel well and now I know why, but will be better soon.
I was just diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and yes I know there are probably lots of you folks out there who are and have dealt with this.
It was a shock to me and must spend my next few months learning how to eat right, do the finger sticks, exercise and just plain understanding what is going on with me.
I will be cheering you all on and love the beautiful work and fabrics I see each day.
Blessings to all.

When my husband was diagnosed he came home so depressed, saying now we have to cook all these special meals he had to give up his Hershey bar that he ate everyday, and on and on he went......NONE of that happened! We cook one meal for dinner, he still has his Hershey bars, he still enjoys Dairy Queen as much as he can. What he did was cut back on potatoes, rice, and carbs. But he still enjoys them all, just not everyday at every meal. He thought he would have to get rid of his motorcycle and everything. He is enjoying life more now than he did before he was diagosed. So don't give up on the things you love to do, that is what will keep you moving forward. Also a very good cookbook that I found that we eat out of a lot is this one here http://www.amazon.com/Healthy-Calendar-Diabetic-Cooking-Recipes/dp/1580401600 every meal we cook out of that is fabulous. Pay attention to the portion sizes, that is when he realized he was eating for 2, 3 and sometimes 4 people at dinner. That took him 2 weeks to get over being hungry then that quit too. Good Luck, and I hope to see you still around here. It isn't as bad as you think it might be. Also get a blood tester that DOES NOT prick your fingers, you test on your arm or leg. It won't hurt as bad.
You take care of yourself first and then everything else will fall into place. Good luck.
Hey Peggy!
Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well, but it is great to put a label to why it was so hey!!?
When my friend was diagnosed 5 years ago, it took her about 4-6 weeks to figure everything out for herself... Cutting back on certain foods was one thing she has done, and she does treat herself with goodies every so often, but it is planned for...
I am sure you will get back to feeling good, and into a new routine in no time...
And since you only committed to 1 PhD finish, I am going to leave you on the list... It is not a race, and there is still 5 months to work on it, so you never know, you may be feeling good and just decide to "get'er done!"
Take care!!!
Peggy I know exactly how you feel as I was diagnosed Type 2 diabetic on Oct 8, 2010. The last 4 months have been a learning experience, I did attend a Diabetes Survival Class at our hospital, my insurance does not pay for this so attending multiple classes was out of the question for me. The dietician worked out a meal plan for me which was amazingly easy to follow. I was experiencing very blurry vision with my new glasses and went to my optometrist who sent me to get blood sugar checked, it was 432, A1C was 10.7. I new I didnt feel very good for quite a while but didnt know why. After taking Metformin 2 a day and following diet plan my A1C is down to 6.9.
I agree with the other person's comment, you can still treat yourself to your favorite foods occasionally. Your meter will become your best friend. I wish you the very best of blessings as you learn to keep your blood sugar under control. I am here if you need someone to listen! Take good care of yourself since no one else can do it for you.

Hi Peggy,
Your health must be your absolute priority right now. Take it easy - one day at a time, and look after yourself.
Dear dear fellow bloggers. I put this post up not really expecting anything but good wishes, but I cannot believe these few actual experiences have given me so much hope. Colleen I am on the same med exactly. You are right I might finish. I just feel so confused. Blessings to all
