Do we need an extention?

?
I've had a couple participants request a
1-month extension due to quilts
being at the quilters still, and won't
have them back in time to bind them
before the end of June...

What do you think?
Shall we keep on for another month?
Looking for input here!

Myra
PS: Myself, I am indeed done with my PhDs at June's end, due to counting on the month of July to make my first "grand-baby-to-be's" quilt, receiving blankets, Teddy Bear and such...
Yes I will be 3 short of my commitment of 6, but such is life.
At least I will have 3 PhDs DONE, and there is always next year's PhD challenge to get the other 3 done, and be more realistic...8-)

Myra I certainly would need a month extention to complete my Phd's. Your list shows I have finished 5 and I have finished all but one of the projects. It is the batik strip pieced quilt and is ready to be quilted. I had done WAY too much free motion quilting and was having a very painful shoulder, so I have been on a rest period. Good timing to get my Bernina 430 in for maintenance. I have it back now but I know I cannot push myself to do that much quilting by the end of June. I have added the Bernina Stitch Regulator and after using it a short time I can tell it will be less wear and tear on this 61 yr old! I love free motion quilting and will do me best to complete this challenge!

I say end it when it was suppose to end, because everyone could always use ONE more month, to finish up another project. Then you might have the argument, you gave them one more month, why not me. There is always the next round of PhD challenge to get them finished, if they don't finish them on their own.

I think it is fine to extend the challenge for another month. Sometimes the best laid plans of mice and men just don't stick to a time table. As long as everyone has the same end date, does it really matter if it is June or July. By the way I think I can have mine finished by the end of June, but a July end date is fine with me!

I could go either way. I'm finishing up my third at the end of this week, and will get working on my fourth. I know I won't have time to get it done by the end of June, but I'm going to get that fourth one done as quickly as I can anyway.

A deadline is a deadline, so even though I am going to miss it, I'm still going to finish the four Ph.D's I set goals to do. In addition to the 3 Ph.D's I'll have finished since the beginning of the year, I did four other quilts from start to finish, so I'm really pleased with the amount of work I've gotten done.

Perhaps you can leave the blog open to posting finishes after the deadline, but the finishes won't count to the challenge?

I could go either way. I second Elizabeth's comment. A deadline is a deadline and though I'll miss it, I've made really great progress on knocking out those UFOs. Plus is it fair to those who did meet the challenge on schedule? I like Elizabeth's suggestion to leave the blog open for finishes but not counting for the challenge.

I could use the extension. I have one quilt left at the LAQ that I can still finish for the challenge, though I did not finish all that I thought I would. I still want to get the last two tops done and off for quilting, but they will not be bound in time. I guess three out of five is better than none :)

I think that it should end when it was scheduled to end. The deadline date was what pushed all of us to get moving. I like the idea of keeping the site up to see finished PhDs completed afterwards.

I'm really hoping to have 8 of my 9 done by next Thursday - it will certainly be a rush though. The last one I've hardly had a chance to look at yet. I'm good either way. One more month would sure push me to finish that last one, but . . . . it's your call Madame PhDer.

I agree with Elizabeth a deadline is a deadline - I would like to post the pics when my 2 quilts are finished & would not consider them completed PHDs for this challenge that ends June 30.

A deadline is a deadline - we knew the deadline when we signed up - like Ann Marie says we could always use "just one more month" to finish more, but someone would always need "just another month" every month because life does happen, despite our best plans :D If I don't quite make my goal at least I know I tried, and did get quite a bit done BECAUSE of the deadline! I'm glad you're going to keep the blog open after June 30 - I hope people WILL continue to post their completions!
