Jilly's PhD's

I spent a great deal of time this last year stalking Myra's blog. I say stalking because I visited so often, I thought I was a follower. Come to find out I was hopping over from Joanne's at Threadhead.

Well this time I decided to join in, as I too have many projects in serious need of completing in this lifetime. I have only committed to 3, as we may be moving come June. We would love to leave San Diego, but the thought of packing and unpacking doesn't thrill me one bit.

Here are the projects I hope will complete.
First project:
My son's t-shirt quilt. I first planned this as a second project, but with the slim possibility of moving, I may be without my machine for a bit. Many "skateboarding" shirts, as that was his life for a time. The yellow shirt in the forefront was his favorite. As the black started to fade, he darken it up with a sharpie marker;-)
Second project:
Mr. Wonderful's ugly scrap lap quilt. I started making hexis about this time last year to stay busy, when his job asked him to work "a few" nights here and there, to help out. A year later and he is still working two nights a week. So I picked up some of my ugly scraps and didn't think I would make anything, but the bigger it became, the more Mr. Wonderful loved it, so his it will be. To date I have 237 hexis stitched together, with about 300 more to go, then I will hand quilt.
Third Project:
Another "keep me busy at night" project started last year. I would really like to finish this, as it will be part of a display of Mr. Wonderful's mementos from his time in the Navy.

And if I have time, I hope to complete the following.
My Wal-Mart Cheater quilt. Bought this fabric there last year and I've been hand quilting in hopes it will look more "real". Once done it will be the perfect size tablecloth for our dining table.

Looking forward to cheering everyone on, and seeing all the completed projects.

blessings,
jilly

Gotta say Jilly I adore the ugly hexie quilt. If hubby ends up hating it you can send it my way!

Good luck with your projects.

Looking forward to seeing your all your finishes. T-shirt quilts are fun, I've made one. Can't wait to see how it comes together!

I think you're going to be happy with how realistic your hand-quilted "cheater" is going to look. I have made a few cheaters and everyone LOVES them- even other quilters. I saw a few in a show I went to last summer and had to get REALLY close to tell.

Also- that hexy quilt is awesome. NOT ugly!

I am so impressed with all your hand work. I like it, too, but don't do as much as I would like at this point. I try to keep an ice cream bucket with embroidering ready to go so I can do it while I wait for the school bus or other times like that.

Well Jilly, I am glad you are not a stalker anymore! lol! 8-)
Wonderful projects to finish up! I too have a hexi quilt on the go. It is a great bring along project...
I will watch with much interest on how the T-shirt quilt goes together. I am not good with stretchy fabrics...
Happy stitchings in 2011!! 8-)

That's funny that you say the fabric is ugly but Mr. Wonderful loves the quilt. Just goes to show there's always someone who will adore the work we put in.

I think the cheater quilt is pretty nice looking and hand quilting it is a fantastic idea to give it that "authentic" feel.
