(50" X 54" lap quilt)
Long ago the local quilting group I belonged to hosted an all day workshop. Bethany Reynolds taught the class pre-book release if I remember correctly. Book is dated 2001 - so this PhD has been hiding for awhile.
To be honest it would have been hiding a whole lot

This quilt top had wonky looking edge issues as a top and it still does now that it's finished. But it should be warm as I decided to go with a

It has now been hand quilted and binding is finished as of January 14, 2011. It could easily be used for demonstration purposes What NOT to Do in Quilting.
Also discussed was the option of placing it into the nearest drop-off box for charity and walking away as fast as possible.

I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. I love the burnt orange color. I am the odd woman out during our Sewing Sundays. I love bright and unusual colors. I think you pulled it all together with your border. If not to charity how about giving this to a tween.
While the colors are not something I would choose, I can see how someone else would like it. Besides we are our own worse critics.
Congrats on getting it done, though.
It's really cool!! I love the orange. It makes the other colors stand out so well. Congrats on a finish!!
Hey Laurie! Good for you on your 1st finish!!! I like the burnt orange background!! the blocks really pop on it!!! You picked a really great fabric for your SnW, as it made for quite interesting little blocks!!!
Thanks for emailing me a heads-up on your finish!
NEXT! 8-)
As was mentioned, if you know a tween...I suppose that is a gal(I can't see this as a guy quilt)who is 9-12 years old..I think she would like it. I kinda like it. Does that mean I am reverting back to childhood??
I am not an orangey person, but the boxes pop off the quilt top, so you don't notice the orange. Good job on a project finished, I am going to buy me some more safety pins today, and work on my #6 too. I am hoping to get it finished during this 3 day weekend.
I love your quilt! The orange makes the other colors pop. Congratulations on your first PhD finish!
oh I love bright quilts and the purples and the oranges are great together. Nice job on the finish!!
I like it!! Good for you for getting it done!
Oh Laurie...I think Im going to have to hop on over to your blog because anyone who can say they thought about ditching a quilt they just finished sounds like my kind of person.
Congratulations on the finish. There is nothing better than getting a monkey off your back!
A finish is a finish...and one with a flannel back (a personal favorite) is a good thing!
Some quilts are "stepping stones", the ones that push us up on the quilt knowledge ladder. They are not to be ignored or denied or left unfinished if there is something to be learned from it. And if it keeps your toes warm in front of the TV so much the better!
I am so impressed. I tried a stack n whack once and it ended up in the garbage. Good for you finishing yours.
Great job! I like the burnt orange! Congrats on your finish!
Don't donate it! It's awesome!!!! Love it!
Hand quilted? Wow! I'm impressed. It's very lively and bright. While I'm sure that it would be gratefully received by anyone who got it, I think you probably should keep it and will find that someone in your family wants it, even if it isn't your favorite!
